You are heading to the kitchen since it’s movie time and the “Munch Monster” has invaded the atmosphere.

You open the cupboard door and immediately you are flooded with every piece of junk food taunting you.

A flashback to the movie — “The Walking Dead” enters your mind replacing every zombie with a Twix soldier. Keeping in perfect step, they march right out of the cupboard and into your bowl.

1. Ask yourself: “Is it worth it to allow food to control me?”

No matter how many times you’ve had to start all over, don’t give up! Whatever has happened in the past needs to stay in the past. You’re in the “here and now” at this moment.

You CAN overcome the food temptations and its control over you.

2. Always pause before you decide to eat something.

When you’re faced with an attack from your horrific hormones or the Munch Monster you must:

STOP-BREATHE-COLLECT YOURSELF- REGAIN YOUR FOCUS

Find healthy alternatives to keep around when temptation strikes. Drink a refreshing beverage such as sparkling water, or a smoothie.

Maybe even a fruit infused water might be just the thing.

Herb teas can also be quite delightful as well as help in controlling hunger.

In the winter you can make a low-calorie hot chocolate for those snuggly nights on the couch.

Gear yourself to ask these questions:

Am I eating out of habit?

Am I really hungry?

Could my food choice be wiser?

3. Keep foods/snacks that are for you and your food regimen in another location away from any other food items.

This may sound ridiculous but it has helped me so much.

I cleared out a cupboard just for me and stocked it with the appropriate foods I needed to set myself up for success.

I have certain snacks available and ready for those times of temptation or craving. When my family snacks on fun foods, I want to be able to snack too.

A little planning ahead by creating foods to grab-n-go will help your journey instead of hindering it. Don’t sabotage yourself!

4. Set your phone’s alarm for a specific time to stop eating.

I’ve learned that setting an alarm about 30 minutes before my cut-off time helps, then set a second alarm for the final “snack call”.

After that, the kitchen is closed for me.

I found this a lot easier. When life gets busy the reminders are a tremendous help.

Your body will learn to make adjustments and get used to the cut-off time.

Remember that when you’re facing a lifestyle change regarding your eating habits, there will be both good and bad days.

Use these opportunities to conquer weaknesses and fears so that you can rise and overcome every situation you may encounter.

I know you can do it, you want this badly enough to put these tips into practice!

Know that you’re not alone and in those weak moments, there has been someone who has already walked there before you.

Plan some new meals and make your transformation starting today.

Will you choose to be an overcomer? You will won’t you?

Run and get started, it’s time to get that cupboard stocked and ready for success!
